Why is there a cross mark on the backside of an Indian Railways?

Cross mark on the backside of the train is for Last vehicle verification of train.

This mark is always put on the last bogie of the train which signifies that train is complete & intact.

If that last vehicle with the cross mark is missing that means some bogies are separated from the rain.
